photography & illustration

Proven ability to analyze design problems and propose as well as implement dynamic solutions along with the ability to apply sensitive directions appropriately across a variety of styles. Over ten years experience creating visuals--both leveraging existing visual identities and developing new ones. Ability to draw with and without the computer, generate computer graphics and produce digital photographic imagery. Have taught drawing, color theory, creativity at the community and college level.

design & writing

Have been responsible for small to large scale projects, including development of conceptual framework, identification of client priorities, definition of suitable goals, budgeting, tracking and management of deliverables. Taught typography, beginning design, print production and visual literacy at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco. Have written primarily on art and lifestyles, including extensive work with diverse markets and audiences.

technical skills

Cross platform computing capabilities: Creative Suite 3 including InDesign, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat. Lightroom and Pitstop. Troubleshooting html, css, color management.

Northwest Asian Weekly, November 2001 to present (full-time employment)

Associate editor and designer. The newspaper, non-profit foundation and, later, the web site have been an important aspect of the Asian community for 25 years. Responsibilities include design, writing, and editorial oversight, generating editorial illustrations and shooting digital photos. Along with the print and web production of the newspaper, manage and produce marketing materials for the Northwest Asian Weekly Foundation, Diversity Makes a Difference, Women of Color Empowered and Rainbow Bookfest.

Communities Magazine, December 2007 - June 2008
(part-time contract)
Photo editor. The international magazine provides a look at alternative communities worldwide. Responsibilities included working with writers and photographers directing submissions, preparing images for print, devising the image storyline and advising team on image making. Also generated original photography, photo-graphics and illustration.
